Canned fruit is real fruit. A processor washes it, prepares it, fills it into a sealed container with a liquid, and heats it until it's commercially sterile. The container might be a tinplate can, a glass jar or, in some markets, a pouch. The liquid is usually water, fruit juice or sugar syrup. Once the seal is on and the heat treatment is done, the fruit keeps at room temperature for years instead of days.
